Family Skiing Vacations

by SkiTrip on November 18, 2008

One of the big complaints about skiing vacation is the cost to participate in the sport. Accommodations are normally one of the greatest expenses and one that can be controlled. Here are three tips that you can put to use this winter to reduce the cost of bedding down for the night.

Many skiers do not spend a lot of time at the place where they are staying during a skiing vacation. So, why book expensive accommodations? A better approach is to phone ahead and book a Bed and Breakfast. Most ski destinations these days have local B&Bs. They are relatively cheap and you usually get a good breakfast, which means you also save time by not having to drive to another location in the morning.

So, if you don’t mind sharing a bunk bed with a friend and washroom facilities with the rest of the skiers on the floor, then a B&B is definitely the way to go. You will save a lot of your hard-earned dollars, which means you can ski more often during the season.

An alternative to a B&B is to rent a house close to the ski resort for the weekend. A lot of locals in the towns and villages near the resorts rent homes to skiers. They could be second homes that they have invested in or cottages that they only use in the summer. These places are usually a bargain especially if you avoid holidays like Christmas and New Years.

You need to get a group of up to six friends together to make it worthwhile. Another benefit is that you can cook your own breakfast and dinner at the house, as well as prepare a lunch that you can bring with you to the ski hill. This means you can make your skiing vacation dollars stretch even further.

If you want something a little more upscale than a B&B, or you don’t want to be tasked with getting a group of skiers together, there is another option. You can stay at an inn, hotel, or chalet further way from the ski resort and commute each morning. Accommodations at or near ski resorts can be expensive, but the rates for rooms drop appreciably the further away you get from the ski hill. How do you find such places?

One of the best ways is to go online and search for accommodations in the region where you will be skiing. You can locate places to stay within a certain radius of the ski resort, say 20 miles. Check the room rates for a few inns or hotels at that distance, and then narrow or widen the radius, as appropriate, until you find a place that suits your budget and has the amenities you want. This can make your trip very economical when compared to staying at an inn or hotel near the ski hill.

An Introduction To Plan B Skateboards Plus The Skaters That Make The Team

by SkiTrip on November 1, 2008

In 1991 some of the best pros wanted to start something new that nobody has seen before! They called it Plan B Skateboards! Mike Tenasky was the leader of Plan B. He got some of the best pros at the time including Danny Way, Matt Hensley, Mike Carroll, Sean Scheffey, and Rick Howard.

Plan B Skateboards took over the skating world with their awesome videos, their amazing boards, and other products! They also added Pat Duffy, Colin Mckay, Sal Barbier, Ronnie Bertino, and Jeremy Wray through out the early 90’s.

In 1994 tragedy struck Plan B skateboards, when Mike Tenasky was killed in a tragic car accident. Plan B Skateboards was then left in the hands of Danny Way and Colin Mckay. Plan B Skateboards eventually died out. Until now!

In 2005, with some help from Syndrome Distribution, Plan B was reborn! The new Plan B team included Danny Way, Colin Mckay, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Gallant, PJ Ladd, Brian Wenning, Jereme Rogers, and in January 2007 Ryan Sheckler! Plan B Skateboards is once again the best in the business!

Paul Rodriguez (P-Rod) was born on December 31, 1984 in Chatsworth California. He became pro when he was 18! His dad was also named Paul Rodriguez, but he was a famous comedian! His dad bought Paul his first skateboard when he was 12.

Ryan Sheckler was born on December 30, 1989 in Orange county California. He started skating when he was 4 years old! He became pro when he was only 12 years old! He won his first X-Games gold medal when he was 13 in the skate park competition. He also has his own show on MTV called “Life of Ryan”.

Jereme Rogers was born on January 13, 1985 in Boston Massachusetts. He dropped out of school when he was 15 to move to California to follow his dream of being a pro skater. He was named “Transworld’s Rookie of the Year” in 2005! Despite all his tattoos he is considered to be a devoted Christian! He actually has a tattoo on his neck that says “In God I trust”! He is also a Vegetarian! He is also the newest member to the team!

Danny Way was born on April 15, 1974 in Portland Oregon. He became pro when he was 15! He was the first skater to jump the Great Wall of China. He is one of the co owners of Plan B Skateboards. Between 1999 and 2002 Danny Way had 7surgeries, he had 5 on his knees and 2 on his shoulders! In 1991 and in 2004 he was named “Skater of the year” by Thrasher Magazines! In 2006 he jumped 82 feet off the giant guitar of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas!
