We had gone to Srinagar to celebrate our anniversary in the month of January. The weather there was chilly and temperature minus degree .We stayed in the houseboat on Dal Lake for a day. Next day early morning we decided to go to Gulmarg to enjoy the snowfall and skiing.
Gulmarg is a famous destination for skiing and has some beautiful slopes ideal for skiing and snowboarding. We reached the base and hired gumboots, ski board and other necessary equipments that were required. We then took a jeep whose tyres where covered with chain so that it was easy to drive on snow laden roads. Finally we reached the top and we took turn to go via the gondola or cable car to the top of the slopes. This place is called Mount Apherwat. Once we reached there it was snowing heavily so we decided to first enjoy in the snowfall then do the skiing. The snowfall lasted for an hour and then we put on our skiing equipments and came down the slopes of Gulmarg It was a really good experience. There are guides who will help you in troubled times also. It has rising and falling meadows with natural slopes, which are good for beginners like us to learn. Snowboard is also available on hire.It has skiing institute, which conducts skiing classes for both learners and experts. We enjoyed our trip along with the skiing and would remember it as our first skiing holidays.
